Like most temples in hill stations, the temples of Old Mahabaleshwar too have their own legends. The Panchganga Temple for example, is believed to be located at the confluence of 5 rivers - the Savitri, Krishna, Veena, Gayatri and Koyna rivers. At the temple, there is a beautifully carved gaumukhi, i.e. cow's head, through which the rivers merge and flow out in a single stream!

The second temple that we visit on this Ex-Mumbai hill station tour is the Mahabaleshwar Temple, which is believed to one of the most ancient temples in the region. This temple boasts a 6-foot-tall Shiva Lingam, as well as artefacts such as the bed, trishul and damru of Lord Shiva.

The third temple that we will visit in the vicinity is the Krishnabai Temple. Built of black stone, it features a shiva lingam and a sculpture of a cow, spouting a stream of water from its mouth. The Krishnabai Temple also signifies the origin of the River Krishna from the surrounding hills.

The tour of Old Mahabaleshwar ends with the Krishnabai Temple.
